Rules

Photo & Video Rules

  • For the safety of your children and the protection of choreography, absolutely NO videotaping or photography is allowed during performances. The use of video or photography may lead to an entry being “adjudicated only“.

  • By entering into our dance competition, Parents, Instructors, Directors, and Contestants give their permission for us to use their pictures and videos in our promotional material.

  • Free Photos & Videos of all entries will be provided to event participants.

Dressing Rooms

  • Given the finite space in venues, studios are expected to share dressing rooms.

  • Studios are expected to keep the dressing rooms clean. Please throw out your garbage and do not spread sparkles on the floor.

  • Dressing Rooms will be assigned by competition staff.

Backstage Rules

  • Competing dancers should be ready at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled competition time. If the competition is running ahead of schedule, they will be expected to perform.

  • Competing dancers must perform in the scheduled sequence unless special permission is granted by the competition staff.

  • All dances must check in backstage at least 3 entries prior to their own.

  • Only teachers/studio directors will be allowed backstage.

  • Substances which alter the condition of the stage are prohibited (e.g. tossing sparkles, baby powder, water, etc.).

  • Helium balloons are not to be released on-stage due to the cost of getting them down with a lift and the possibility of them popping during another performance if left on the ceiling. They can be used if they are on a weight and not released. Released balloons may result in a deduction or the routine being ‘adjudicated only’.

  • Maximum set-up & take down time for props is 2 minutes total. Productions are the exceptions, but arrangements for elaborate set up times must be made prior to schedule being sent out. This rule will be enforced to ensure the competition remains on schedule.

  • Dangerous props such as live animals and/or any routines which contain fire or pyrotechnic devices, guns, swords and/or knives etc. are also prohibited. If the stage is littered after your performance, you will be responsible for an immediate removal of the items.

Other Rules

  • Inappropriate costuming, language in songs or movement in routines may result in a deduction or the routine being “adjudicated only” at the discretion of the competition's judges and management.

  • Studios must enter a minimum of 10 entries to qualify for Overall and High Score awards.

  • Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building and is not permitted within 10 feet of any entrance.

  • Performances with thematic elements and issues reflecting a lack of discretion and awareness of the age and nature of the competition audience might be deemed inappropriate and may become “adjudicated only”.

  • All decisions made by the judge's are final. Please do not approach any of the judges about scoring or decisions.

  • Given our constraints in evaluating actual rehearsal time, we trust the teachers to enter performances in the appropriate Competition Levels. Routines that are obviously under-placed may be moved up a level at the discretion of our competition directors. All decisions are final.

  • Studio logos/names should not be visible during or in between performances

  • Our competition reserves the right to combine awards if necessary, usually due to a lack of entries.

  • On The Edge reserves the right to cancel any and all events due to lack of registration, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Furthermore, On The Edge reserves the right to change an event’s location, venue and/or date(s).
